Welcome New North Music Hall |
Christmas Candlelight Service |
On Sunday, December 23, at 4:00 p.m. New North Church will hold its community Christmas candlelight service, which has for nearly a century been one of Hingham’s most cherished holiday traditions. The entire community is invited to attend. Held in the historic meeting house at 1 Lincoln Street in Hingham Square, the New North Christmas service will feature special holiday music provided by the United Brass Quintet, a South Shore based group whose trumpet soloist, Ted Haines, has been playing at New North for more than 40 years. Also performing will be flutist Robert Tobey, clarinetist Gary Gorczyca and soprano Lorna Jane Norris. New North's pastor, Reverend Bill Turpie, will lead the service of Christmas music and readings. Organist Gonzalo Farias will accompany the congregation as it sings favorite carols. New North is an independent community church which welcomes people of all religious backgrounds to its services and special events. Collection for sheltersAs in prior years, collection boxes will be provided in the church vestibule to receive gifts for residents of two South Shore shelters: Father Bill’s & MainSpring in Quincy and the Mary Martha Learning Center in Hingham. The shelters request new, unwrapped gifts such as toothbrushes & toothpaste, bar soap, deodorant, shampoo, combs & brushes, shaving cream & disposable razors, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, as well as stationery, books and items suitable for small children. Following the service, a Wassail bowl reception will be held in the church parlor. Childcare for smaller children will be available in the nursery at the back of the church during the service. |
