On Sunday, February 22, New North Church, 1 Lincoln Street, Hingham, will welcome Dr. Greg Mobley, a Bible scholar who is an expert on the heroes of the Bible and the figure of "Satan" as portrayed in the Old Testament.

Dr. Mobley, who is Professor of Christian Bible at Andover Newton Theological School, will give a sermon entitled "The Prophet Jeremiah: The Ultimate Outsider" at the 10:30 a.m. service. Following worship, he will also answer questions and explore more of this theme at a brunch in the church parlor.

The brunch and morning service are open to the entire community.

For the past few weeks New North pastor Rev. Bill Turpie has been preaching on the contributions of the ancient prophet Jeremiah to understanding prophetic tradition in Israel and its meaning for today. Rev. Mobley’s talks will enlarge upon this topic.

Professor Mobley is the author of he author of three books, including “The Birth of Satan” with T.J. Wray, and “The Empty Men: the Heroic Tradition of Ancient Israel.” Mobley is also an active participant in Jewish-Christian dialogue. He is currently team teaching a course jointly with Rabbi Or Rose that is offered at Andover Newton and Hebrew College on "Moses and Jesus: Models of Religious Leadership."

Dr. Mobley earned his Ph. D. from Harvard University. Mobley is an ordained American Baptist minister.

The entire community is invited to this special event, which is the latest in New North’s Sunday Brunch Series. Previous speakers in the series have included Rev. Liz Walker, the former WBZ-TV broadcaster, and noted theologian Harvey Cox of Harvard University.
