New North & The Community

New North has long seen itself as an asset to and resource for its neighborhood and community.

Our neighbors have always felt a love for the beauty of the meeting house building, and many have attended New North’s community Christmas candlelight service or taken part in New North events and functions. Derby Academy’s traditional Derby Lecture, part of the school’s graduation exercises, has been delivered in New North every year since 1807.

New North makes its sanctuary available to Hingham residents, church members and non-members alike, for special services such as weddings and memorial services. The Ruth Curry parlor in the parish house wing is used on an on-going basis by educational groups, civic organizations and community programs. The ballroom, with its large dance floor and its beautiful palladian windows, is home to two dance schools and is used for concerts, recitals and other special events. If you wish to know more about availability of New North facilities, please contact us for more information.

Benjamin Lincoln Society

New North’s small congregation labors constantly to preserve the meeting house in which it has met for nearly two centuries, but we could not keep up with on-going maintenance without the help of our loyal neighbors and friends.

The Benjamin Lincoln Society was established in 1994 as a way to recognize the generosity of the friends of the New North Meeting House Corporation and as a focus for outreach efforts in the larger community. To learn more about the Benjamin Lincoln Society or to become a member, please contact us for more information.
