Women's Empowerment Sunday :
November 16, 2008

Dr. Elisabeth BabcockDR. ELISABETH BABCOCK
President and CEO of Crittenton Women's Union

The public is invited to New North’s 10:30 a.m. service which will feature a message by Dr. Babcock on how women are being both empowered and thwarted in their efforts to become full participants in our society and culture. Crittenton Women's Union (CWU) is a nonprofit organization which provides housing, education and workforce training, daycare, and parenting support services in 10 locations throughout Boston.  CWU seeks to help low-income women attain economic independence and create better futures for themselves and their families by providing safe housing, support, education, and training programs. The service will also feature a special video story on the Food Network’s Paula Deen and her journey from fear to success.

Panel Discussion
Immediately following the service there will be a panel discussion featuring local authors and experts on "empowering women." Among those on the panel will be Vicki Donlan, author of "Her Turn: Why It's Time for Women to Lead in America," Phyllis Godwin, president and CEO of Granite City Electric, and Philomena Hare, assistant pastor of New North, who heads the Salvation Army's social outreach program in Brockton.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served during the panel discussion, which will be held in the church parlor.
